Local Nuisances
What is a nuisance?
The Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act 2016 outlines what defines a nuisance and what Council has the powers to address. In order to breach the law, the particular nuisance must spread to your property and be considered unreasonable. Concerns regarding loud music or motor vehicle noise are dealt with by the Police. For these matters call 131 444.
Before lodging a complaint with Council
Council takes nuisances very seriously. To effectively evaluate your concern and if warranted to take any enforcement action, sufficient evidentiary information must be provided. This includes the completion of a Nuisance Complaint Form and Activity Diary. Each matter is looked at on its merits and can involve a visit to your property to verify the complaint and determine if the nuisance reported is reasonable or unreasonable as per the law.
To make a formal complaint, upload your Nuisance Activity Diary to Contact Us.
