The Light Country Visitor Information Centre is an essential starting point for uncovering the history, landscapes, flavours, and stories of Kapunda and the Light Region. With immersive exhibitions, friendly staff, and access to trails, heritage attractions, and world class wine regions, it offers a rich and memorable visitor experience.

The Light Country Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is located in the beautifully restored, state heritage listed Thomson Building in the heart of Kapunda, Australia’s oldest commercial copper mining town. It serves as a welcoming hub for travellers discovering the Light Region and surrounding Barossa landscapes.

The VIC team offers local knowledge, itinerary assistance, maps, brochures and tailored recommendations for exploring Light Country, the Barossa, and Clare Valley regions.
From cellar doors to scenic drives, the VIC is an ideal launching point for wine discovery in both famous regions.
Visitors can browse a range of souvenirs, regionally focused books, and unique gifts.

Exhibitions to Explore On-Site

1. Sir Sidney Kidman Experience (Level 1)
A curated exhibition by Sir Sidney Kidman's great-grandson Christo Reid featuring Kidman family heirlooms, memorabilia, and film elements that tell the story of one of Australia’s most influential pastoralists.

2. Taste of the Region Interpretive Display (Basement)
An engaging exhibit showcasing the stories, produce, and character of the Light Region. This includes rotating exhibits from the Kapunda Historical Museum.

Visitors can move between floors easily via stairs or lift.

4. Historic Kapunda Copper Mine Site and Trail
Located just 800m from Kapunda's Main Street, this historic mine site has many stories to tell. The sealed 1.5km trail around the mine is the perfect opportunity to see and learn about the site.

5. Anlaby Station
Book a garden tour at Anlaby Station, one of the finest homesteads in Australia. These are run on Wednesday and Sunday mornings.

6. Seppeltsfield and Marananga
Meander along Seppeltsfield Road and have your choice of cellar doors, distilleries and restaurants/cafes to stop at and try. One of the most picturesque places in the Barossa

7. Freeling - Home of McLeod's Daughters
Begin your journey in Freeling (Gungellan in the TV Series) at ANZAC Park at the windmill and bathtub which were the most known props in the TV Series and walk the trail.
