Community Services

Engaging in community service has a number of positive benefits for individuals and the society at large.  Council is committed to providing tailored support services and facilities that help connect people, improve social inclusion, personal knowledge and interpersonal communication skills.

​​Community Bus

If you need to transport small groups of people to a not-for-profit or community event then the community bus might be a good option for you. The bus is generally not used for private, commercial or profit-making purposes.

Our community bus hire is available to not-for-profit community groups and organisations that provide services of benefit either to the entire local community or a specific target group.

Community Transport

If you need help getting to appointments and activities, then the Barossa and Light Community Transport might be a good option for you.  Services include a Door-to-Door Shopping Bus and Community Cars.

The Barossa and Light Community Transport service was set up in 1992 to help transport residents of the Barossa Council and Light Regional Council that do not have a licence, access to a car, or are unable to drive because of age or health.

Home Assistance

If you need some help around the house, then the Barossa and Light Home Assist might be a good option for you. Services include cleaning, gardening, gutter cleaning, and window washing. To use this service, you must be:

  • 65 years and over; or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and
  • registered and referred by My Aged Care.

The Barossa and Light Home Assist is a program that helps people living within the area remain living safely in their own home so they can continue to enjoy their independence and quality of life.

The disability access and inclusion action plan provides guidance for improving access and inclusion for all across the region. It has been prepared in accordance with The SA Disability Inclusion Act 2018 and approved after public consultation 27 January 2021.

Everyone has a history, a story waiting to be discovered or told. Bring the past to life by accessing Councils local history collection at the Kapunda Library 51-53 Main Street or Contact Us if you are unable to visit.

Resources include:

  • Free access to Ancestry.com using the library's public access computers
  • Local history collection (books) for Kapunda and surrounding areas
  • Information on local churches, cemeteries, buildings and people
  • Access to Trove and digital copies of the Kapunda Herald newspaper dating back to the mid-1800s.
