If you have visited the Hewett Library on a Thursday morning, you may have seen Heather taking part in our 40-minute, one-on-one tech help sessions, where she has been mastering the art of digital drawing.
Since March 2026, Heather has collaborated with our Library Officer - Digital Services to develop the skills needed to navigate and use an iPad, Apple Pencil and Procreate. During this short period of time, she has progressed through tracing, drawing and colouring a variety of digital images, moving from initial explicit teaching to now requiring minimal, open-ended prompting, Heather has notably grown in confidence and creativity with each session.
With a keen interest in the Port Adelaide Football Club, Heather continues to design and recreate eye-catching Port Adelaide–inspired digital drawings.
Heather’s participation in one-on-one tech help sessions highlights how digital support can have a meaningful impact beyond learning how to use a device. Through regular, personalised guidance, Heather has had the opportunity to strengthen her digital confidence, explore her creativity and make notable improvements in her fine motors skills through the movements required for digital drawing, all within a supportive, encouraging and education-based environment.
As a person living with disability, Heather has entered these sessions with a positive approach to connect her personal interests with new technology. By creating artwork inspired by the things she enjoys, Heather has been able to build skills at her own pace while experiencing a strong sense of achievement.
"I look forward to and enjoy coming to the Hewett Centre each week, and it has helped me build confidence."
