Roger Murcott

Kapunda based artist, Roger Murcott, has been painting Australian birds and wildlife for over 40 years.

He works from life and field sketches wherever possible, working mainly in acrylics and using airbrush work to achieve softness and atmosphere in the backgrounds. The birds and foreground are painted with fine sable brushes. Other favoured mediums include silverpoint (an old master’s technique once used by Leonardo da Vinci) and wood carving.

Roger has exhibited in several major Wildlife Exhibitions across Australia and overseas, notably in the Mall Galleries, London. Currently Roger works from his studio in Kapunda, located in the historic Mine Manager’s Residence. His unique underground gallery is open for viewings on weekends 11-4pm or on weekdays by prior arrangement.
