Boundary Reform

On 1 January 2019 the Local Government (Boundary Adjustment) Amendment Act 2017 commenced, considerably restructuring the boundary reform processes within The Local Government Act 1999. The South Australian Local Government Boundaries Commission (Boundaries Commission) is an independent statutory authority that has been tasked with assessing and investigating submissions into boundary changes.

Our community may be aware that the Town of Gawler has submitted a proposal to the Boundaries Commission for the following Light Regional Council areas to be included with the Town of Gawler:

  • Hewett;
  • Gawler Belt (part of); and
  • Reid (part of).

The Boundaries Commission has considered the Town of Gawler’s boundary change proposal and determined that an inquiry into the proposal may proceed, subject to the Town of Gawler agreeing to the cost of an inquiry. The Boundaries Commission will now undertake a process to estimate the cost of the inquiry.
