Light Regional Council will tonight consider management options for the iconic palm trees along Seppeltsfield Road, Marananga.

A span of 56 palms is currently in conflict with overhead powerlines, with South Australian Power Networks requesting Council’s input on long-term solutions.  Options range from the removal of trees to undergrounding the powerlines.

Mayor Bill Close reassured the community:  “Council has no intention of removing these magnificent and iconic trees.  The Seppeltsfield Road palms are synonymous with the Barossa and South Australia, and we will be seeking State Government support to help secure their future for generations to come.”

Council will consider the report at its Ordinary Meeting from 5:00pm tonight, which will be livestreamed via the Council website.
