Electranet is planning a new high-capacity transmission line extending from the Mid North to Adelaide – a significant infrastructure project poised to impact the Light Regional area.
According to Electranet "The Northern Transmission Project (known as NTx) has been established to investigate options for a potential major network upgrade that would support the State’s economic growth, enable large-scale renewable energy projects and strengthen transmission links for industrial expansion.”
Light Regional Council recognises the importance of this vital infrastructure. However, the project will affect the region and its communities as the transmission line will pass through the Council’s jurisdiction. Electranet has not yet declared the exact route but has identified several proposed corridors. These corridors have been the subject of community consultation conducted by Electranet.
Mayor Bill Close encourages residents to provide feedback directly to Electranet regarding the proposed routes and the overall project plans. Community input is essential in shaping the project’s outcomes.
For more information or to submit your views, please visit the NTx project website.
Local government’s influence on the project is limited. However, Council will submit its views to Electranet in an effort to minimise the impact of transmission towers and lines within the district. Furthermore, Council will advocate for fair and consistent treatment of landowners affected by the project.
While the current community engagement phase concludes on 31 October, Electranet continues to explore opportunities to engage the broader community. Mayor Close urges all residents to participate in this important dialogue to help ensure the project’s impact on the region is carefully managed and moderated wherever possible.
