Coronavirus Update March 2020

Light Regional Council response measures to Coronavirus (COVID-19) - 27 March 2020

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is a continuing global crisis, and the Nations response is evolving continually.

Light Regional Council continues to monitor the situation closely and enact measures to protect the health of our community, visitors and staff, and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Actions being taken by Council are in line with advice and direction from State and Federal Governments, and relevant Government Health Authorities.

During this time, Council encourages our residents to play their part – observe stricter personal hygiene and social distancing, stay away from public places if you’re unwell, be respectful to our staff and look out for the vulnerable members of your community.

Council Services and Closures

Council understands that during this difficult time you may have questions as to how Council services will be affected.

To ensure that Council is playing its part in stopping the spread of COVID-19 it has complied with the directions given by the Federal Government on 25 March 2020.

Details of these necessary changes are outlined below:

Can I still come to the Council offices in Kapunda and Freeling?

No.  Council unfortunately has experienced instances of members of the public accessing its facilities whilst unwell, counter to widely-promoted information with respect to COVID-19.

As a result, ratepayers and residents who need to access a service, have an enquiry or need to pay a bill are invited to do so on-line, over the phone (8525 3200) or by e-mail (light@light.sa.gov.au).

We are still here to provide services, but we are obliged to do so with appropriate safeguards until the pandemic has passed.

In addition to office-based work, all of Council’s outdoor operations such as road, footpath, parks & gardens and other maintenance & capital works, waste management and community wastewater management will continue to be provided.

Are meetings still taking place?

Meetings with Council officers

All non-essential face-to-face meetings have been cancelled. Staff will continue to utilise phone or video meeting facilities where practicable.

Should you have a meeting scheduled with a Council officer in the coming period, please contact Council to make alternative arrangements.

Monthly Council meetings

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 28 April 2020 and will go ahead as scheduled.  The format of the meeting is likely to allow for more use of electronic devices such as videoconferencing, based upon recent changes to legislation tailored to the circumstances created by the pandemic.

Council Assessment Panel Meeting

The next Council Assessment Panel (CAP) meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 1 April 2020 and will go ahead as scheduled with additional personnel hygiene and social distancing protocols in place.

Note: Council is working to shift all CAP meetings into a digital format. This will result in the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 6 May 2020 and all subsequent meetings being livestreamed for the foreseeable future.
