My Aged Care

My Aged Care is part of the Australian Government’s changes to the aged care system which have been designed to give people more choice, more control and easier access to a full range of aged care services.

The Commonwealth Government commenced a series of Aged Care system reforms to be implemented over a ten year period. The reforms are based on a consumer-directed care model, with people having greater choice and flexibility, and care based on individual needs. The aim is for people to be able to be independent, remain in their homes and stay connected to family and community rather than move towards residential care.

As part of these reforms, the Commonwealth Government has changed the way in which they fund aged care services. Funding will instead go directly to the individual, who will be able to buy services from the marketplace based on their personal needs.

My Aged Care can provide you with information on aged care for yourself, a family member, friend or someone you’re caring for. You can call the My Aged Care contact centre on 1800 200 422 between 8am and 8pm on weekdays and between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays.

Please note that the changes to the disability sector and the associated National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding model is an entirely separate reform.
