The keeping of Poultry such as chickens is great fun for everybody and provides few eggs for that tasty omelette on Sunday morning. But with the keeping of poultry as with most animals comes with responsibility to keep their environments clean, tidy, and vermin free. Equally important is that your poultry does not pose a nuisance to your neighbours. Council's Resource sheet contains further information.
Depending on the size of the poultry/chicken coup development approval may be required. Please check with one of Councils Planning Officers if unsure.
There is a lot of information on the internet and in the traditional form such as books, but as a start please see the Poultry Australia website for the keeping of chickens.
For any further advice, please contact Council’s Environmental Health Officer or Community Inspector on 08 8525 3200 to discuss your individual requirements for your property.
