Home Assist

Home Assist is for those people who either cannot manage, or have no one living with them or nearby, to do their necessary chores. An assessment is made to determine the applicant's eligibility under criteria set by the Commonwealth Government who fund the Home and Community Care programme. Funding is Iimited, so priority is given to those most in need.


WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR HELP? (Referral NOT required)

Residents of The Barossa Council and Light Regional Council are eligible for assistance if they are:

  • Aged
  • Frail
  • Disabled
  • A carer of a frail, aged or younger disabled person
  • People who are temporarily unable to maintain the health and safety requirements of their home due to moderate or severe disabilities or lack of family support.

Where possible, the client is asked to provide material costs and to contribute towards labour costs, $5.00 per hour, or give a donation.

TRANSPORT

Transport is available for the target group for Medical appointments, shopping, and social outings. Conditions do apply.

HOME MAINTENANCE

To ensure health and safety in the home, assistance is available for minor home maintenance or modification, such as;

  • Clearing of blocked gutters
  • Repairing roof leaks
  • Changing tap washers, light bulbs, fuses, batteries in smoke detectors
  • Carpentry Repairs
  • Minor yard cleaning
  • Removal of dangerous tree limbs
  • Repair to pathways or steps for safe access
  • Minor modifications to assist with daily living
  • Other minor repairs

HOME SUPPORTscheme map

To assist with the more demanding tasks of daily living, short term in-home assistance is available for cleaning, housekeeping, transport, shopping and more. Longer term assistance may be provided on a limited basis. This is subject to the client's needs and available resources.

HOME SECURITY/SAFETY

For people living in their own home, we will arrange a home visit and provide advice on how to improve security and safety. We can also assist with the installation of security locks and devices, smoke detectors and safety modifications.

CLIENTS RIGHTS

We acknowledge your rights under the Privacy Legislation, which prevents organisations from misusing your personal information. You also have rights, under the Freedom of Information Act which allows you to access any of your personal information retained by the community transport section.

Refusal of service will not jeopardise any access to future services.
