National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.

The NDIS takes a lifetime approach, supporting people with disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and employment.

The first stage of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in South Australia began on 1 July 2013 for children aged 13 years and under.

From 1 July 2017, adults aged 18 to 64 years of age will begin to enter the NDIS based on where they live; this includes Light Regional Council residents.

NDIS Local Area Coordination

Changing Plans

A small number of NDIS participants have a gap between their current plan’s start date and the previous plan’s end date.

Providers should continue to provide services to a participant during this gap period in a plan. Old plans will be extended to the day before the start of the next plan.

This will enable providers to receive payment under your old plan for services they may have provided during the gap period.
