Light Regional Council is pleased to announce that it will receive up to $3m in funding through the State Local Government Infrastructure Partnership. The grant will target infrastructure investment and will create much needed jobs in our region. This grant, combined with a $12m contribution from Council will see 72 township roads sealed across our area as well as footpaths and stormwater upgrades. It will also see 33 jobs created over the life of the program, some of which will be with Council and some will be will the private sector.
In regard to the announcement of the funding for these works Mayor O’Brien stated "this will simply transform our area. Those township streets where residents have had to endure mud in winter and dust in summer will now have kerbing, sealed roads and footpaths to walk on. This is certainly one of the most exciting announcements that has been made in my time on Council.
Council will commence works as soon as possible and aims to have the work completed by December 2019. Works will be undertaken on a priority basis and will be grouped together to ensure that there is construction efficiency. Where possible work will also include street lighting and street trees.
For further information on these works, enquiries should be directed to Council’s General Manager, Infrastructure & Environment, Richard Dodson on 8525 3200 or firstname.lastname@example.org
